The Atlanta Falcons have suffered a new blow after back-up quarterback DJ Shockley was ruled out for the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.
Shockley suffered the injury during the Falcons' 13-10 pre-season victory over the Buffalo Bills.
With star quarterback Michael Vick in hot water after being indicted on dogfighting charges, Shockley had been battling Chris Redman for the No.2 spot behind Joey Harrington.
However, should Harrington and Redman go down, the Falcons will turn to former NFL Europa player Casey Bramlet, who played under Atlanta coach Bobby Petrino at the University of Louisville.
Shockley, a seventh-round pick in the 2006 draft and former starting quarterback at the University of Georgia, had nine passes in 17 attempts in his two pre-season games for the Birds, throwing for 123 yards with no TDs and one interception. He also used some of his ground speed to run four times for 19 yards.
