Cromartie: Runs in for a 52-yard touchdown after intercepting a Brett Favre pass
New York Jets quarterback Brett Favre had a roller-coaster night as his new side crashed to a 48-29 loss to the San Diego Chargers.
Favre, a future Hall of Famer, threw for three touchdowns and was 30-for-42 for 271 yards, however he was intercepted twice, sacked four times and ended up rolling his ankle in the third quarter.
And the 38-year-old Favre admitted: "They were very active defensively. This ruffled us a little bit protection-wise. I thought they schemed very good."
While Favre will have had better nights, his San Diego counterpart Philip Rivers turned in another starring role - going 19-for-25 with three touchdowns and one interception.
Rivers found Mike Tolbert, Chris Chambers and Antonio Gates with scoring passes, while LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for two touchdowns and Antonio Cromartie intercepted Favre to ensure the Chargers finally got their first win of the season.
And having lost late on in their opening two games to the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos, the San Diego players were relieved to have opened their account.
"We needed to win a game," Rivers said. "I think you saw what this team can do and the big plays we can make."
And Tomlinson, who ran for 67 yards on 26 carries, added: "If we lost this game we go 0-3 and I don't know what's going to happen.
"For us to get that first win, there is a sigh of relief."
For the Jets, Favre found Chansi Stuckey and Dustin Keller for touchdowns, while David Barrett ran in an interception.
KC is siding with the Chargers as they battle the Raiders to avoid the tag of the worst team in California.
KC expects Houston to make home advantage count when they take on the equally-troubled Jags on Monday.
The play-off picture is beginning to become clearer in the NFL after another action-packed round of games.
