Cotchery and Favre celebrate

Brett Favre rolled back the years for the New York Jets while Dallas' unbeaten start came to an end in week four of the season.

Veteran quarterback Favre threw for a career-high six touchdowns as the Jets defeated the Arizona Cardinals in a high-scoring thriller.

There was also a tense finish at Texas Stadium as the Cowboys came up just short against the Washington Redskins in a classic NFC East clash.

Elsewhere, the Tennessee Titans and the Buffalo Bills remain unbeaten after victories over Minnesota and St Louis respectively.

The battle of Ohio was won by the Cleveland Browns, while the Kansas City Chiefs ended a 12-game losing streak in style, ending Denver's perfect record.

Dallas 24-26 Washington

Cowboys lost their unbeaten record as the Redskins scored an upset victory - Jason Campbell passing for two touchdowns and Shaun Suisham kicking four field goals.

It was only the second triumph for the Redskins in Dallas in 13 years as Clinton Portis contributed 121 yards rushing, more than the total managed by the Cowboys, who finished with just 44 yards.

Suisham broke a 17-17 tie with a 33-yard field goal midway through the third quarter and supplemented that with two further efforts in the fourth, from 33 and 29 yards.

Tony Romo completed a hat-trick of touchdowns with less than two minutes to go but Washington were able to run the clock down.

Arizona 35-56 New York Jets

Brett Favre tied Joe Namath's 36-year-old Jets team record with a career-high six touchdowns in the Jets' massive win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Shaking off a twisted ankle, the 38-year-old connected three times with Laveranues Coles in a 34-point second quarter before adding a further three in the fourth.

The victory moved the Jets to 2-2 behind Favre, starting his 257th consecutive regular-season game, while opposite number Kurt Warner threw for a massive 472 yards but was intercepted three times and sacked on five occasions.

Favre hit Coles with scoring passes of 12, 34 and two yards in a second quarter that also included Darrelle Revis's 32-yard interception return for a TD and two Jay Feely field goals.

The former Green Bay Packer then teamed up with Jerricho Cotchery in the fourth quarter for touchdowns of 17 and 40 yards before throwing 24 yards to Dustin Keller.

Kansas City 33-19 Denver

The Kansas City Chiefs ended a 12-game losing streak when they surprised the previously unbeaten Denver Broncos 33-19 on Sunday.

The Chiefs (1-3), who last won an NFL game in October 2007, took advantage of four turnovers by the visiting Broncos (3-1) and Larry Johnson rushed for 198 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Denver pulled within 26-19 on Matt Prater's 33-yard field goal with 2:06 to play but the Chiefs clinched victory 29 seconds later when Johnson ran 16 yards for a touchdown.

Tennessee 30-17 Minnesota

Rookie Chris Johnson scored two touchdowns as the Titans improved to 4-0 for the first time in their franchise history.

As the re-located Titans, the former Houston Oilers of the AFL have also won an NFL-best straight seven regular season games despite giving up a season-high 17 points to the Vikings.

The defence was dominant with four sacks and four turnovers that the Titans turned into 21 points, Nick Harper intercepting a Gus Frerotte pass with 3:46 left after the Vikings pulled within 23-17 on Adrian Peterson's second touchdown run.

Johnson then scored his second TD on a 6-yard run, and the Titans sacked Tarvaris Jackson twice to seal the victory.

Tampa Bay 30-21 Green Bay

Derrick Brooks had one of three interceptions of Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers and also forced a fumble that Jermaine Phillips returned 38 yards for a touchdown.

Rodgers threw two touchdowns to Greg Jennings, who had six receptions for 109 yards, but was sacked three times and left for one series with a shoulder injury midway through the fourth quarter.

He returned briefly after Green Bay fell behind 23-21 on Matt Bryant's third field goal but was sacked on second down and the ball was picked off by Gaines Adams with just over 2 minutes to go.

Earnest Graham put away Tampa Bay's third straight victory with Brian Griese at quarterback, breaking a 47-yard run to the Packers 1, then scoring on the next play. He finished with 111 yards rushing on 20 carries.

New Orleans 31-17 San Francisco

Deuce McAllister carried 20 times for 70 yards, scoring his first touchdown of the season and opening up play for Drew Brees as Saints bagged their second win.

Brees was 23-of-35 for 363 yards and three scores, including touchdowns of 47 yards to Robert Meachem and 33 yards to Lance Moore, and also set up scores with a 52-yard pass to Meachem and an 81-yard connection with Devery Henderson.

J.T. O'Sullivan was 18-of-36 for 257 yards, but continued to take too many sacks for San Francisco (2-2). Sacked 13 times through the Niners' first three games, O'Sullivan was brought down six more times, twice by Charles Grant.

O'Sullivan also fumbled in 49ers territory on one early sack, setting up the Saints' first touchdown, and threw two interceptions in the end zone.

Carolina 24-9 Atlanta

Steve Smith broke two tackles and raced 56 yards for a touchdown on his return from a two-game suspension.

Jake Delhomme was mistake-free, Smith and Muhsin Muhammad combined for 243 yards receiving and two scores, and Carolina (3-1) shut down the league's top rushing unit.

The Panthers held Michael Turner, who came in as the league's top back with 336 yards rushing, to 56 yards on 18 carries. Matt Ryan threw for only 158 yards as the Falcons (2-2) remain winless on the road.

Muhammad, who had eight catches for 147 yards, caught a 36-yard TD pass from Delhomme early in the fourth quarter for the final margin.

The Panthers didn't turn it over and recovered after losing both starting tackles to injury to win the 100th game in franchise history.

Jacksonville 30-27 (OT) Houston

Josh Scobee kicked a winning field goal for the second week in succession, this time a 37-yard effort in overtime after David Garrard had put the Jaguars in position.

He completed a 24-yard pass to Matt Jones on third down to get to the Houston 41, then found Greg Jones in the flat for 22 more yards.

Houston (0-3), getting a strong outing from quarterback Matt Schaub, looked like it might get its first victory of the season. Schaub threw for 307 yards and three touchdowns, two of them to Kevin Walter. His last one was an 8-yard strike that put the Texans ahead 24-20 with 7:06 remaining.

But Garrard brought the Jaguars (2-2) right back, scrambling for two first downs and then ran for a 5-yard touchdown with 1:48 to play. He gained 13 yards on third-and-10, then picked up 9 more a few plays later on fourth-and-8.

Cincinnati 12-20 Cleveland

Derek Anderson threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Edwards that put the Browns ahead to stay in the fourth quarter of a poor quality affair.

Anderson, playing with a heavily strapped forearm, went 15-of-24 for 138 yards with a touchdown and an interception, keeping back-up Brady Quinn on the sideline.

With Carson Palmer resting a sore elbow the Bengals could do little behind Ryan Fitzpatrick, who hadn't completed a pass in a regular-season game in three years.

Fitzpatrick threw three interceptions and finished the game as Cincinnati's leading rusher with 41 yards on four scrambles, underscoring the Bengals' futility. They're 0-4 for the first time since 2002.

Oakland 18-28 San Diego

LaDainian Tomlinson helped the San Diego Chargers overturn a 15-point half-time deficit to defeat the Oakland Raiders.

The running back rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns, his first coming on a 13-yard run that put the Chargers ahead for the first time in the fourth quarter.

Although the Raiders levelled with a field goal to make it 18-18, San Diego edged ahead again thanks to Nate Kaeding's 47-yard field goal.

Tomlinson then made sure of the victory, going 41 yards to the end zone to seal a 10th straight win for San Diego over Oakland.

St Louis 14-31 Buffalo

Buffalo moved to 4-0 for the first time since 1992 thanks to a 31-14 victory over struggling St Louis.

The Bills scored 25 unanswered points to defeat the Rams, erasing a fourth-quarter deficit for the third successive week to remain perfect.

Quarterback Trent Edwards finished 15-of-25 for 197 yards with one touchdown, that coming when he found receiver Lee Evans.

Steven Jackson rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown for St Louis, who may soon have a new man in charge with rumours circulating that current head coach Scott Linehan could be heading out the door.

Chicago 24-20 Philadelphia

Kyle Orton threw a career-best three touchdowns in the first half as the Chicago defeated Philadelphia, leaving both teams at 2-2 for the year.

Orton hooked up with Greg Olsen, Marty Booker and Devin Hester as the Bears overcame four turnovers to get back to winning ways.

The Eagles had four attempts from the one-yard line but could not punch in the crucial score, Correll Buckhalter - standing in for the injured Brian Westbrook - being tackled short on a fourth-and-one.

A Chicago native, quarterback Donovan McNabb completed 25-of-41 passes for 262 yards with a touchdown and an interception in a losing cause.
