DeAngelo Hall has been released by the Oakland Raiders after just eight games of a lucrative seven-year contract.

"We felt like it didn't work out the way we thought it would. We appreciate his efforts to this point and what he brought to the Oakland Raiders and wish him well in his future endeavours."
Tom Cable Quotes of the week

The Pro Bowl cornerback, 24, was traded to Oakland by the Atlanta Falcons in March for a second-round draft pick in a deal reportedly worth $70 million.

But he failed to adapt to the Raiders' man-to-man style of defense and was regularly beaten by opposition receivers during the opening half of the season.

And, with the Raiders struggling at 2-6, the decision was made to dispense with Hall's services.

"We felt like it didn't work out the way we thought it would," Raiders head coach Tom Cable said in a statement.

"We appreciate his efforts to this point and what he brought to the Oakland Raiders and wish him well in his future endeavours."
