AFC West strugglers release cornerback

DeAngelo Hall has been released by the Oakland Raiders after just eight games of a lucrative seven-year contract. The Pro Bowl cornerback, 24, was traded to Oakland by the Atlanta Falcons in March for a second-round draft pick in a deal reportedly worth $70 million. But he failed to adapt to the Raiders' man-to-man style of defense and was regularly beaten by opposition receivers during the opening half of the season. And, with the Raiders struggling at 2-6, the decision was made to dispense with Hall's services. "We felt like it didn't work out the way we thought it would," Raiders head coach Tom Cable said in a statement. "We appreciate his efforts to this point and what he brought to the Oakland Raiders and wish him well in his future endeavours."
