The Pittsburgh Steelers were as relaxed as possible at media day in Tampa, laughing and joking around, but there was an underlying determination to win a record sixth Super Bowl.

The Steelers will fight it out with the Cardinals on Sunday and Pittsburgh can make history if they win a sixth title to move out on their own as the most successful side in the NFL.

For the Cards it is a first visit to the big game, but they have been on fire in the play-offs so far, and the Steelers know it will be a tough task.

Mike Tomlin and his troops faced the media on Tuesday and amongst the stock answers were some gems, as added to the grilling.

Here's the best of Pittsburgh's comments from media day.

Pittsburgh v Press

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger did not impress during his one Super Bowl win, but he would take victory over performance any day...

"I didn't play well in the last Super Bowl, but we came out with the win, and I'd take playing badly and wining again. I'm sure I'll be nervous but I'm going to push through that and make it a normal game."

Hines Ward believes it will be a tight tactical encounter at Raymond James on Sunday...

"Just as much as Whiz knows us, we know about him, so it's going to be a chess match and we'll see who gets the check mate.

"This is the game were you make your name, you have to be ready, you never know when your number will be called, or when the ball is going to come you way and you need to make the big play."

NFL defensive player of the year, linebacker James Harrison, is not a fan of media day, and he answered most questions with more than a hint of sarcasm. All he is interested in is winning...

"I don't care about being the best defensive player, that's not what defines you as a team, it's about winning. If we win the Super Bowl that means we are the best this year."

Coach Mike Tomlin is not weighed down by the pressure of trying to add to the great Steelers legacy...

"I'm honoured by the legacy of this team, I'm proud to be part of it and hope to add to it by doing what we do on Sunday and winning the game.

LaMarr dreaming

Outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley is in dreamland to be in a Super Bowl in his second NFL season, especially considering Pittsburgh's remarkably tough schedule...

"We've played against a lot of good backs this season, we had the most difficult schedule possible so we are well used to having to play hard

Running back Willie Parker was having fun in the sun, and sees Sunday's game as a classic offence versus defence battle...

"They've got a great offence and we've got the best defence so it's going to be another five-star match-up, we've had a lot of them all year."

Ben Roethlisberger was light-hearted, but feeling the heat towards the end of his session, as the ten-minute warning sounded...

"10 minutes left? That's the longest 20 minutes of my life, they said there was half an hour left about, like, three hours ago."
