The New York Giants have kept hold of quarterback David Carr but have decided to release three veteran players.
Carr joined the Giants as back-up to starter Eli Manning and played in three games during the last campaign.
A seven-year veteran, the former first overall selection of the 2002 NFL Draft started his career at the Houston Texans before spending a season with the Carolina Panthers.
While Carr, who completed nine out of 12 passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns in his limited action last season, is staying a trio of his team-mates have been cut.
The Giants have let go Reuben Droughns, Sam Madison and Sammy Knight. All three ended the season on injured reserve.
Running back Droughns arrived in the Big Apple in a trade with the Cleveland Browns in 2007 and scored six touchdowns to help the team win the Super Bowl.
However, he found himself limited to special teams duty in 2008 and did not play again after injuring his neck against the Dallas Cowboys in December.
Saftey Madison spent three years with the Giants having previously played for the Miami Dolphins while cornerback Knight had played for 160 consecutive games in the NFL before a hip injury ended his streak.
