Fleming: Free for Nottinghamshire
Daniel Vettori will captain New Zealand at September's Twenty20 World Championship, with Stephen Fleming left out.
Regular one-day captain Fleming stood down from his position after the Black Caps' semi-final exit at the hands of Sri Lanka.
Left-arm spinner has assumed command therefore, as head coach John Bracewell resisted the temptation of selecting the experienced opener.
Bracewell said: "Stephen Fleming has been omitted from the squad.
"This is the first opportunity for Daniel to captain the team abroad and we wanted to ensure he and the team were not looking to Stephen for leadership.
"We also thought it would be a good opportunity for Stephen to remain with Nottinghamshire to build towards the longer forms of the game."
Bradley Scott could make his debut in the tournament, in place of all-rounder James Franklin, while wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum's younger brother Nathan has also been called up for the first time.
The Kiwis get underway against Kenya on September 12 before a chance for revenge against Sri Lanka three days later.
Squad: Daniel Vettori (captain), Shane Bond, Peter Fulton, Mark
Gillespie, Gareth Hopkins, Chris Martin, Craig McMillan, Brendon McCullum, Nathan McCullum, Jacob Oram, Jeetan Patel, Bradley Scott, Scott Styris (subject to fitness), Ross Taylor, Lou Vincent.
