Gayle: Going home

Injured West Indies captain Chris Gayle will be returning home from the tour of South Africa to recover from his hamstring problem.

The big-hitting opener has been told he will need another two weeks to get over his hamstring injury, so will return from South Africa to the Caribbean.

Gayle tore his hamstring during the tour of Zimbabwe which preceded the South African trip and, although he played in the first test in Port Elizabeth he was hampered by the problem in the second match and missed the third.

"Given the most recent prognosis I will require at least another two weeks of recovery before I could even consider picking up a bat again," Gayle said on Cricinfo.

"I have been granted permission by the West Indies Cricket Board to return home to Jamaica to concentrate on getting better."

Gayle also had to miss out on the Twenty20 international on Friday and the first one-dayer between the two sides on Sunday.

"Chris will go home tonight (Monday) or tomorrow," said West Indies media officer Philip Spooner.

Dwayne Bravo, who stood in for Gayle as captain, will remain in charge for the remaining four one-dayers.
