South Africa vs West Indies 1st Test: Fidel Edwards

Edwards: Will join Worcestershire

West Indies pace ace Fidel Edwards has joined Worcestershire for the 2008 season.

The 26-year-old will miss the first part of the season due to the West Indies' Test series with Australia - however Edwards will be available from the start of July.

The signing of Edwards brings an end to a frustrating search for an overseas player for the Pears, with deals for Umar Gul, Ashley Noffke and Shane Bond failing to come off.

Director of cricket Steve Rhodes said: "We said we would try and act quickly once the Shane Bond deal never materialised and I am delighted to be able to get someone of Fidel's quality.

Desperate

"This move has been bubbling along for quite a while and he is desperate to come over and make his mark in county cricket in this country.

"The good thing is that when Fidel comes over to England the wickets should be drying out nicely and he will be a danger to all batsmen. He also has that ability to reverse swing the ball."

Edwards will join Simon Jones, Kabir Ali and Matt Mason in a formidable looking pace attack at New Road next season.
