Arthur: Disbelief
South Africa coach Mickey Arthur revealed he was watching in disbelief as he witnessed India amass 386 runs on the third day of the first Test at Chennai.
Virender Sehwag smashed the quickest Test match triple-hundred ever recorded off 278 balls as the hosts replied to the Proteas' first innings score of 540 in emphatic fashion.
India finished at stumps on 468-1 - Sehwag 91 runs behind Brian Lara's world record score of 400 which he notched up in Antigua against England in 2004.
"We were beaten by one chap today," said Arthur.
"In my wildest of dreams, I didn't think they would score this quickly.
"It was all because of one man. I tried to visualise every scenario last night but this was not one of them.
"We tried to do everything - bowled wide, over the wicket, round the wicket, nothing worked."
Indian chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar was full of praise for the innings - hailing the India openers display as the "best ever".
"It was the finest innings I have seen in test cricket," he said.
"It was absolutely great. He hardly got beaten and played every delivery with the middle of the bat."
