Jayasuriya: Bang in form
In-form batsman Sanath Jayasuriya celebrated his recall to the Sri Lanka one-day squad with a dramatic innings of 48 not out as Mumbai claimed an eight-wicket victory over Kolkata in Friday's IPL action.
Having whipped the Knight Riders out for just 67 - the lowest score so far in the IPL - Jayasuriya went on the rampage, hitting six fours and three sixes top take the Indians to their victory target in 33 balls.
Jayasuriya, who hit an unbeaten century in the Indians' victory over Chennai on Wednesday, continued his sensational run of form after Shaun Pollock had starred with the ball.
The veteran South African claimed figures of three for 12 from his four overs as the Kolkata innings never got off the ground.
Pollock removed opener Salman Butt and was then involved in the run out of Aakash Chopra before he sent back David Hussey and Mohammad Hafeez.
Sourav Ganguly put up some resistance with 15 from 20 balls, but Australian Dominic Thornely had him caught behind and the tail collapsed.
The result was never in doubt but Jayasuriya was determined to do it style, hammering both Shoaib Akhtar and Ishant Sharma in his 17-ball knock.
The veteran lost Sachin Tendulkar in the first over when the India legend nicked Shoaib, and Robin Uthappa was caught by Ganguly off Sharma for nine, but Jayasuriya proved irresistible and took the Indians to another two points.
