Panesar: told to calm down by umpires
Whenever I come to Old Trafford I do well here and I enjoy bowling here and the wicket does help me a lot.
Monty Panesar
Quotes of the week
Monty Panesar was delighted after he continued his success at Old Trafford during England's six-wicket victory over New Zealand.
The left-arm spinner earned man-of-the-match honours after turning the momentum in England's favour with Test-best figures of 6-37 in the second innings.
That performance saw New Zealand, who had claimed a first-innings lead of 179 while dominating the opening two days, skittled for 114 and set the platform for England to chase down 294, a task duly completed with five sessions to spare thanks to 106 from Andrew Strauss.
In the process, Panesar took his tally of victims to 25 in three appearances in Manchester and admitted afterwards the pitch is ideally suited to his bowling.
"With the assistance I was getting from the pitch I knew there was a responsibility on me and luckily I was able to get the wickets," Panesar told Sky Sports.
"Whenever I come to Old Trafford I do well here and I enjoy bowling here and the wicket does help me a lot."
There are no Tests scheduled at Old Trafford for the next four years, perhaps not the smartest decision by the ECB given that England are now unbeaten in their last six matches at the venue, a run that includes five wins.
Panesar also revealed he received a warning from umpires Darrell Hair and Simon Taufel for the exuberhant nature of his appealing.
He added: "I try and enjoy myself out there and do get a bit excited and that shows in the celebrations sometimes.
"The umpires said I needed to calm down a bit sometimes with my jumping up and down."
England lead the series 1-0 ahead of the third and final Test at Trent Bridge, which starts on June 5.
