Vettori: Collingwood praise

New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori has praised England one-day skipper Paul Collingwood for the way he leads from the front.

The Durham all-rounder was suffering from a shoulder problem and looked out of touch in England's 2-0 Test series win over the Black Caps earlier in the summer.

But he has bounced back admirably to lead England superbly in the Twenty20 international success and the opening two games in the current NatWest series.

Vettori admires the way Collingwood leads from the front - a different style to that of England Test captain Michael Vaughan.

Own style

The Kiwi skipper said: "Vaughan and Collingwood are different captains. They do things in their own style.

"Collingwood is one of those guys who leads from the front with bat and ball and in the field and always seems involved in the game.

"Vaughan comes across as a more cerebral type of captain and can only dictate with the bat and the way he captains the side.

"I'm always drawn to guys who lead by their performance and Collingwood does that pretty well the majority of the time.

"He bowled in the power-play in the last game at Edgbaston so he backs his own ability and, when you have that in a captain, it just reverberates throughout a side."

Vettori is determined to lead New Zealand to victory in the third ODI in Bristol on Saturday after coming close to victory in the last match in Edgbaston before the game was abandoned in controversial fashion.

Frustration

He added: "We felt a little bit of frustration at the end of the day's play. We wish the game could have been concluded - whatever result could have happened.

"It really felt like a defeat because we came off thinking we could have won the game and it leaves a bit of a sinking feeling in your stomach.

"But we look on the performance pretty favourably and have got to try to replicate it here at Bristol.

"It is a key game. If we can head up to the final games in London at 1-1, then I imagine we will be in a pretty good state.

"I know the weather forecast is not great so it may be a shortened game and we've got to be ready for it like we were at Edgbaston."
