Australia captain Ricky Ponting's tour of the Caribbean is over due to a wrist injury.

The Tasmanian missed Friday's fourth one-day international at Basseterre and was set to fly home later that day.

Team physiotherapist Justin Steers said: "Ricky has a tendon injury in his right wrist and he will be flying home to see a specialist in Melbourne.

"We see this as a good opportunity to have him see the specialist at his earliest convenience."

Ponting sustained the injury while batting in the third match of the five-game series in Grenada last Sunday, which Australia won to take an insurmountable 3-0 lead in the series.

Michael Clarke, who captained Australia for the first time in a one-day international on Friday, will captain the side again in Sunday's game, which is also in St Kitts.
