Mohammad Asif has been immediately suspended from all cricket by the Pakistan Cricket Board after it emerged he failed a drugs test during the Indian Premier League.

The Pakistan paceman failed a drugs test whilst playing for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL, with officials of the Twenty20 competition revealing his name on Monday.

Asif was dropped from a list of probable players for their ICC Champions Trophy campaign after already being investigated for suspicion of carrying drugs at Dubai International Airport.

Asif was detained in Dubai for 19 days and now his latest problems have arisen with a failed drugs test during the IPL.

The PCB are taking a tough stance on the controversial Asif, and have immediately suspended him from all cricket whilst saying they will not assist him in his legal battle.

"In line with our anti-doping policy, we have suspended Mohammad Asif with immediate effect," PCB chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi said.

"He will have the right to appeal under the International Cricket Council's anti-doping regulations.

"The PCB will offer all the assistance to the IPL drugs tribunal and implement its findings. We may even attend the inquiry proceedings."
