Hampshire (18pts) beat Yorkshire (4pts) by 10 wkts

Imran Tahir and James Tomlinson took four wickets each as Hampshire raced to a 10-wicket victory over Yorkshire at the Rose Bowl.

Yorkshire were all out for 107 in their second innings, losing all 10 wickets for just 62 runs to a mixture of smart spin bowling from Tahir and some lacklustre batting.

The visitors began the day promisingly with Andrew Gale and Chris Taylor putting on 45 for the first wicket before a gargantuan collapse ensued.

Tahir dismissed Gale (31) and Anthony McGrath (0) with successive deliveries and Yorkshire never recovered.

First-innings top scorer Jacques Rudolph went with the score on 52, and Adam Lyth was dismissed without a run being added as the collapse deepened.

Tomlinson's swing and movement ripped through the Yorkshire order as he finished with four for 31 and Tahir took four for 37 as the Tykes' challenge died with a whimper.

After both sides had scored 236 in their first innings, Hampshire were left with a target of 108 for their second Division One win of the season and their first at home.

Michael Carberry and Michael Brown knocked off the runs with minimum fuss inside 26 overs to ease their relegation fears and pile more pressure on Yorkshire.

Carberry reached his half-century with his ninth boundary from 78 balls and got the winning runs soon afterwards as the visitors capitulated.

Day Two

Adil Rashid took career-best figures to leave the County Championship match between Yorkshire and Hampshire at the Rose Bowl perfectly poised after two days.

Both counties made 236 in their first innings, with Rashid helping himself to figures of 7-107 to stifle the home side's reply.

Rashid demolished the Hampshire middle order in giving some sharp turn on a slow surface as they lost seven wickets for 41 runs.

They were only able to draw level thanks to a last-wicket stand of 38 in eight overs between David Balcombe and James Tomlinson.

Rashid began Hampshire's problems by trapping Michael Brown leg before wicket, before dismissing Michael Lumb, Chris Benham and Nic Pothas in quick succession.

Pothas had earlier averted a hat-trick after Rashid had Lumb caught at silly point, before removing Chris Benham to a ball which kept low.

Rashid returned later to have Chris Tremlett stumped charging down the wicket and then dismissed Imran Tahir to a catch at slip.

It was appropriate that Rashid should finish off the Hampshire response when Tomlinson, who had made an aggressive 22, was caught close to the wicket by Anthony McGrath.

Earlier Yorkshire had resumed their first innings at 206-7 and they added 30 more runs - overnight pair Jacques Rudolph and David Wainwright were out in the space of four balls after a useful stand of 75 for the eighth wicket.

Day One

Jacques Rudolph held Yorkshire's innings together as they scrambled to 206-7 at the end of the first day against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl.

After opting to bat first after winning the toss, Yorkshire slipped to 17-2 when Andrew Gale went for nought without a run on the board, before Anthony McGrath headed back to the pavillion after scoring three.

Rudolph then made it to the crease and made 39 alongside Chris Taylor before he became the first of James Tomlinson's three wickets on the day.

Adam Lyth was caught and bowled by Dimitri Mascarenhas to make it 84-2 but Gerard Brophy's 36 in a 48-run partnership with Rudolph again helped steady the ship.

Two more wickets fell though but Rudolph and David Wainwright's unbeaten 61-run stand boosted Yorkshire from 145-7 over the 200 mark.

South African Rudolph was unsurprisingly the leading partner as Wainwright just added a patient 18 from 65 balls to just keep Rudolph company as he ended the day unbeaten on 83 after f acing 181 balls with 132 fours.
