Wavell Hinds has agreed a deal to remain with Derbyshire next season.

The Jamaican all-rounder, 31, has impressed with both bat and ball since being given belated clearance to play as a Kolpak by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

The news comes after a week which has seen former captain Rikki Clarke and spinner Nayan Doshi released by Derbyshire after less than a year.

"I have enjoyed my first season with Derbyshire immensely and I am therefore very pleased that I have been offered the opportunity to return in 2009," said Hinds, whose new contract also contains an option for 2010.

"We have a talented group of players here and ambitious plans for the future. I am excited about being a part of that future."

Head of cricket John Morris added: "I am naturally delighted to have secured the services of a player with such experience and quality for at least another year.

"As well as being an exceptional cricketer, Wavell is a terrific personality to have in the changing room and his wealth of experience at the highest level has been, and will continue to be, invaluable."
