Adverse weather once again decimated the domestic cricket programme on Sunday with three of the four scheduled Pro40 matches washed out.

Durham's Division One game with Lancashire at the Riverside and the Division Two clashes between Leicestershire and Northamptonshire at Grace Road and Warwickshire and Essex at Edgbaston were all abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Middlesex's Division One meeting with Nottinghamshire at Lord's was the only contest to survive the heavy rain that has hit the British Isles in recent days.

The abandonment at Edgbaston means that Essex could now have to wait to confirm their return to Division One.

The point for a no-result could be sufficient to secure promotion, but Mark Pettini's team may need to beat Kent in their final game at Canterbury next Saturday to claim the Division Two title.

Essex are now on 12 points, two more than Kent, but both sides could both be overhauled by Yorkshire if they win their last two matches, against Warwickshire at Headingley Carnegie on Tuesday and at Northamptonshire on Saturday.

For their part, Warwickshire have to beat Yorkshire to retain any hope of snatching third place and qualifying for the promotion play-off with the third-bottom county in Division One.
