The shortlist for this year's International Cricket Council (ICC) awards was announced on Monday.
ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat revealed the nominees for the nine categories, including the new Twenty20 International Performance of the year.
Heading the list of nominated players are West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene and South African speedster Dale Steyn.
The three players have been nominated for both cricketer of the year and Test player of the year.
Chanderpaul topped the Test and one-day averages this year, while Steyn captured 86 wickets in 14 Tests in South Africa, India and England.
South Africa's Graeme Smith also gets a nod in the cricketer of the year category after leading his team to the first Test series win in England for 43 years.
Meanwhile West Indies' Chris Gayle, Australian Brett Lee and India's Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni vie for the Twenty20 International player of the year.

Emerging player of the year: Stuart Broad, Ajantha Mendis, Morne Morkel, Ishant Sharma.
Associates ODI player of the year: Ryan ten Doeschate, Alex Obanda, Thomas Odoyo, Niall O'Brien
Twenty20 International Performance of the year: Chris Gayle, Brett Lee, Yuvraj Singh, Dhoni.
Women's player of the year: Nicola Browne, Charlotte Edwards, Claire Taylor, Lisa Sthalekar.
Spirit of Cricket: Bangladesh, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies.
Umpire of the year: Mark benson, Aleem Dar, Simon Taufel, Steve Davis, Rudi Koetzen.
