Mitchell: New Pears deal
Worcestershire have signed opening batsman Darryl Mitchell to a new three-year deal, keeping him at New Road until 2011.
Mitchell has come through the ranks of the Pears' academy system, and has scored 922 first-class runs in his first full season in senior cricket this year.
Mitchell has played a big part in helping the club to bounce back into Division One of the County Championship and he has been rewarded with a new contract.
His current deal has 12 months left to run but he now has three more years at Worcestershire which will keep his opening partnership with Stephen Moore - who also signed a new contract last month.
"I was disappointed not to get to 1,000 runs by the end of the season but averaged over 40 and we won promotion in the Championship and stayed in Division One of the Pro40 League and now I have got a new contract so it's not been a bad year," said Mitchell.
The Pears have been backing their promotion-winning squad with new contracts - with all-rounder Gareth Andrew, signed from Somerset last winter, penning a new two-year deal until the end of 2010.
Paceman Chris Whelan, recruited from Middlesex at the end of last season, and reserve wicketkeeper Josh Knappett have also signed new 12-month contracts.
A one-year extension has also been offered to Mehraj Ahmed while fellow seamer Richard Jones has a winter deal which will give him time to prove he is worth a contract for next season.
