Surrey batsman Mark Ramprakash has been banned for the opening two County Championship matches of next season for repeated swearing.

The veteran batsman pleaded guilty to a charge of using crude language and an ECB disciplinary panel has responded with a two-games suspension, £1500 fine and costs of £1000.

Former England man Ramprakash was acting captain for Surrey in their game against Sussex in August at the Oval when he got involved in an altercation with Murray Goodwin.

The 39-year-old had to be restrained by the on-field umpires and although he has since apologised he has been hit with a ban.

And ECB statement confirmed the ban, reading:

"In imposing this penalty, the panel took into account that Ramprakash was captain at the time of the incident, his previous good character, and the facts that he was contrite, had unreservedly apologised to the umpires and had already been fined £1,000 by Surrey County Cricket Club."
