Essex all-rounder Graham Napier has admitted he is in discussions over the possibility of joining an Indian Premier League team.

The 28-year-old became a Twenty20 star during the summer when he produced some stunning performances on the domestic scene.

He smashed an astonishing 152 not out off just 58 balls against Sussex at Chelmsford, an innings which included a record 16 sixes.

Now Napier could be set to join a franchise in the IPL for next season, though only if his current employers agree to let him go.

Committed

The 2009 domestic season will overlap with the Twenty20 tournament on the sub-continent and the player insists he is still committed to Essex's cause.

"Having had a little taste of the way India is promoting Twenty20 cricket it is clear there is potential for a great opportunity to be provided to myself and other players to show our skills off on a grand stage," he said in India where he won a trophy at the Twenty20 Champions League awards.

"Essex has, and always will be, my first side but this is a chance that has arisen and will offer me a great opportunity to further my career.

"I'm still contracted to Essex and look forward to helping the club win more silverware next year."

Napier was honoured for the best batting strike rate at the event in Delhi after scoring 326 runs for the Eagles at a remarkable ratio of 195.2 per 100 balls.
