Bangladesh spinner Abdur Razzak has been suspended by the International Cricket Council because of an illegal bowling action.

The 26-year-old was reported by umpires Daryl Harper and Asoka de Silva during the second Test against New Zealand in Dhaka.

It was one specific delivery that raised concerns from the on-field officials and Razzak was sent to the Australian Institute of Sports in Canberra to have his action assessed by independent observer Marc Portusa.

After the analysis in November the ICC have now confirmed left-armer Razzak has been deemed to have an illegal action.

"The analysis showed that the amount of elbow extension in Razzak's bowling action for both his stock delivery and fast ball exceeded the 15 degree level of tolerance," said the ICC.

"The suspension applies with immediate effect. He can apply for re-assessment of his bowling action after he has modified it in accordance with clause G of the regulations for the review of bowlers reported with suspected illegal bowling actions."

Razzak, who was previously reported during a one-day match in the 2004 Asia Cup, has been given 14 days to appeal the decision.
