Asif: Free to play
The Pakistan Cricket Board has fined Mohammad Asif one million rupees (£7,500) for bringing his country into disrepute following his detention in Dubai last year.
The fast bowler was found to possess opium at Dubai airport but was subsequently deported to Pakistan without the authorities pressing charges.
"The probe committee that examined his 19-day detention in Dubai last year in June has found he had violated the code of conduct and brought the country into disrepute," Salim Altaf, chief operating officer, said. "That is why he has been fined one million rupees."
Asif is currently serving a 12-month ban after testing positive for nandrolone while playing in last year's Indian Premier League, but will be available for the ICC Champions Trophy starting on September 24.
"We don't see any reason to keep him out of cricket once his ban ends," Altaf said. "As far as his Dubai detention case is concerned he has been fined for that."
