Lancashire coach Peter Moores insists all-rounder Andrew Flintoff is fully motivated to regain fitness and return to the domestic and international field.

Flintoff, who retired from Test cricket in the summer after contributing to the 2-1 Ashes series victory over Australia, has recently signed a new three-year deal with Lancashire.

The 31-year-old is currently recovering from knee surgery, but former England coach Moores revealed Flintoff is eager to return to action and has been working hard to get back on form to make his debut at Old Trafford.

"He's working away, doing it on a day-to-day basis to get back on the field and do what he does best," Moores told Sky Sports News.

"It is a huge commitment. Fred wants to get back fit and strong and he is motivated in himself.

"He is very motivated to get back on the field and play for England and play for Lancashire."

Risk

When asked whether he felt it was a risk agreeing a three-year deal with Flintoff, who has been plagued by injury and has had six operations in four years, Moores seemed confident it would not be a problem.

"I don't think so. Fred is still in rehab but it's all going to schedule at the moment," said Moores.

"It's early days. Fred said to start with his target was (the England tour of) Bangladesh, but it's probably a little bit early."

Moores also revealed he is certain that Flintoff, who made his exit from the Test arena to prolong his one-day and Twenty20 career, will make a return to the international stage.

"I've no doubt he will play for England again," he said.

"I am sure that, once he is fit, anyone will want Fred in their one-day side."
