A furious Pakistan Cricket Board has handed out indefinite bans from the national team to Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan, and also suspended Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved for a year after the team's performance in Australia.

An inquiry into the shockingly bad performance Down Under led to PCB chairman Ijaz Butt handing out the sanctions in a stunning crackdown on player indiscipline.

Along with the suspensions, brothers Kamran and Umar Akmal were put on probation for six months and also fined, while one-day skipper Shahid Afridi was also fined for biting the cricket ball.

Yousuf led the disastrous tour of Australia, while Younis is a former skipper of the national team making them the two most senior players in the squad.

However, a review of the tour has led to the pair effectively having their international careers ended by the PCB, barring a remarkable turnaround, although they can still play in domestic cricket.

Pakistan failed to win a match on their trip to Australia, while infighting also marred the tour with several rows between the players, but the PCB has come down hardest on Younis and Yousuf.

"Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan, keeping in view their infighting which resulted in bringing down the whole team, their attitude has a trickledown effect which is a bad influence for the whole team, should not be part of national team in any format," said a PCB statement.

Afridi was fined three million rupees for his ball tampering saga, which the PCB called a "shameful act that has brought the game and country into disrepute".

Along with their one-year bans from all forms of international cricket, Malik and Naved were also fined two million rupees, wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal was fined three million rupees and his younger brother Umar two million.

Umair Ansar says...

I think its very harsh on those players, because they were the only half decent players in Pakistan Team, e.g SHOAIB MALIK, RANA NAVED and YOUSAF......., the only right decision PCB has made is to throw YOUNIS out, he does not deserve a place in the team....., after wining the T20 World Cup, he started to think he can manage the team as he wishes...., I wonder why they lost the series against NEW ZEALAND when he dropped YOUSAF and MALIK from the team.

Umar Adil says...

PCB was right about younis and yousuf but Afridi is already banned from IIC , why he was punnished again?. I think Ijaz Butt should also step Down as chairman.

Pakistan Cicket Board is a joke. I feel sorry for all the fans. Mohd Yusuf & Younis Khan are the best batsman they have at the moment. Couldn't they handle this issue in a better way? Just going on sacking people for fun isn't going to do any good. This is a soap opera.

the most disgraceful momont in pakistan cricket, especially Younas Khan who is always been a victim of conspiracies, Pakistan cricket is unstable just because of the unstable management.

I must come to the rescue of Mohammad Yousaf, who led a very poor in indisciplined side. I feel players Umar AKMAL and Kamran AKMAL rightly received their fines. With respect to Afridi he was a shame to pakistan and deserved what he got? In respect of Younis KHAN, he does not even deserve to be in the pakistan side, just take a look at his average in test and one dayers... its a total shame? Overall Pakistan players need to realise that they are playing for Pakistan Pride and not for themselves? I full applaud the PCB as this action should have been taken long time ago?

What is going on here? Banning Yousuf and Younis? Are you feeling alright? All this started from poor selection! And fining a 19yr old 2 million rupees? Why? He were the only decent performer with Asif and Amir! If I were them I would retire from Pakistan and play else where! I'm sure any team would love to have them! All the fines appart from Umer Akmal were alright but why the bans? If they causing a rift in the team just don't select them! Your going to need them at times! Pick players like F.Iqbal, R.Iftikar, Farhat who can't catch, Butt, Misbah, and that other bowler who dropped Watson on 99! It's them and the selectors who should be getting fined! Where's Tanvir, M.Haveez, A.Kamal (for tests), Anwar Ali etc.! Got so much talent but the politics is what the cause of all this is! Everyone behind the scene is what needs changing with people who actually care about Pakistan cricket!

I appluade pcb's decision, i think it was about time these over rated and over paid idiots where taught a lesson. I hope pcb do not back down from their orginal decision.

Aron Hallam says...

all for the best in the long term. refusing to leave the crease , biting balls , getting thrashed every game - i would be glad it was all over if i were in the team. these players can focus on county cricket and 2020 payouts. what other solution is there ?

Samuel Mayer says...

Perhaps a little to harsh in my opinion. Yes, they probably did deserve to be disciplined by the board, for poor behaviour on the tour. However, a lifetime ban was over the top in my view.

Ali Imran says...

Well, i just shocked to hear such news, i guess its a pretty harsh decision for banning such players like Yousef, who is the current world record holder + only player in the team whose average is above 40 and about younis well i dont like him as a captain but as player he is good. my question to any sports related person regarding sydney test. Is 160 odd runs is more for 11 players i mean every person has a bad day so does kamran have but 160+ is getable in test match shame on PCB may b the right decision to bann Afridi also for such disgrace (bitting a ball). hope bann will be lifted fromn yousef n younis otherwise every newcomer should think twice before playing for pakistan

Bilal Rehman says...

Yousuf and younis are the best playes for pakistan!! pcb will realise this but it gont to be too late !!! but we still have razzaq, afridi ,akmal bros, butt, malik after the yer but pakistan wont be tha same

Sanan Khan says...

Its' a big shame...the person Younis Khan who did everything for his country is life banned...for what ? for winning the T20 World Cup for his country i guess..instead Malik and Akmal should have been baned for life...I think no respected person will ever like to play for Pakistan..shame

Arfan Ashraf says...

younis should retire from international cricket, i think the fine that umer and kamran akmal have got is very harsh, umer has akmal has only played half a dozen games, he would have to take a loan out to pay 2 million rupees. a feel sorry for yousuf.

Ali Abbas says...

I disagree with people who think this decision is harsh and think that PCB is trying to escape at the cost of these players. Ok, they should have done it earlier but at least they have done it now !! No individual is bigger than country. Losing and winnig is part of game but politics, scandals, corruption, fight... We are sick of it. This is a historic decision. I will pray that PCB does not over turn this decisons as they have been doing it in past.

Baz Durrani says...

Its a shame to see such talent go to waste, the responsibility lies with the PCB management for failing to control their team, not the other way round!! PCB management should have intervened from the outset and have had effective damage control policies in place!! its time for PCB to review own management style and policies instead of going for the fail safe "pass the buck" strategy! shame on PCB!

Tahir Khan says...

Common guys just give it a month or so they will be back... I think the PCB chairman, selectors, managers etc are equally responsible for this mess. They keep selecting players like Kamran akmal, Imran Nazir, Imran Farhat, Rao Iftikhar, salman butt etc. who hardly pass the 50 figures after playing 100 matches ... and dont they have a job to keep decipline and the team together etc..

Chris G says...

The PCB did what it could to try and save their positions in control of cricket in Pakistan. The unfortunate truth is the PCB is really the one to blame not the players. This whole situation has been unfolding now for the better part of 4 years. They had a winning recipe with Younis in charge and should of supported him when he was Captain and removed the others who were causing all this friction within the team (Malik and Yousuf.) The decision to make Malik the captain was stupid to begin with and every administrative decision since has been at the same level or beyond. Now they've basically blamed everyone but themselves for their lack of management.

Hassan Mahmood says...

All six players should go to court and fight these cases... this is wrong.. we can't win anything without these players... they should get picked for the world t20 and the tour in england....poltics has control of the sport.... afridi should become captain of all three formats of the game...

Foukey Malik says...

I recently was in Pakistan and was ashamed at the not only the so called TRUSTEES of this fine game but also the childish and petty behaviour of the players. This game should be taken away from the current establishment and privatised and the bidders should people of stature, who hold credentials equivalent to Imran Khan, Asif Iqbal,or Javed Burki
