Quotes of the week
Northamptonshire have confirmed the signings of all-rounders Elton Chigumbura and Vishal Tripathi ahead of the 2010 campaign.
Zimbabwe star Chigumbura joins the county for the entire season as the overseas player just days after the Steelbacks announced the signing of Virender Sehwag for the Friends Provident Twenty20.
Chigumbura, 24, has played in six Test matches and more than 100 one-day internationals for his country.
The talented all-rounder has taken more than 100 international wickets in all forms of the game, and has also scored more than 2,200 runs in ODIs.
Head coach David Capel said: "We are pleased to confirm that Elton will be joining us for the 2010 season. He is a talented young, athletic cricketer who has already played in over 100 ODIs for Zimbabwe.
"It is clear through watching him play against the West Indies recently, that he is an energetic, effervescent and enthusiastic cricketer, who is very keen to improve his game.
"I know that Elton sees this as a massive opportunity, and is looking forward to joining us as soon as possible."
Lancashire-born Tripathi has also signed for Northants on an initial three-month deal.
The 22-year-old batting all-rounder, who also bowls leg spin, will secure an extended contract should he impress during his initial stay.
Capel said of Tripathi's signing: "This is a good opportunity for Vishal to impress everyone at Northants during his initial three-month phase. He is a bright, young all round cricketer."
Tripathi added: "I'm delighted to have signed for Northants Cricket. I've been given a great opportunity to show what I can do at Second XI and First XI levels.
"I'm grateful of the opportunity and hopefully I can show everyone what I can do as an up and coming young player."
