Nearly 60 per cent of skysports.com readers have backed England's decision to axe Kevin Pietersen.

The former Ashes hero has been dropped for the upcoming Twenty20 and one-day clashes with Pakistan following his poor form in this summer's internationals.

He attracted further criticism by announcing the news that he was being dropped with a foul-mouthed rant on Twitter.

He has since apologised but his fall from favour with the public is underlined by our poll which saw 58 per cent back the decision of the selectors to remove him from the firing line.

The South African still has his admirers though with 42 per cent thinking England should have stood by him.

Sky Bet have reduced his odds of him featuring in the first Ashes Test against Australia in Brisbane on November 24 to 2/7.

England are ranked at 11/10 to retain The Ashes by clinching at least a drawn series and 2/1 to win the battle outright. The home side are 8/11 favourites to come out on top.
