Laxman: Barred from joining Nottinghamshire

India have stepped up their bid to end a rebel Twenty20 league by banning VVS Laxman and Piyush Chawla from playing in England.

The BCCI have denied requests for Laxman to join Nottinghamshire and Chawla to head to Hampshire as both counties have players who starred in the unauthorised Indian Cricket League.

At Nottinghamshire, New Zealand all-rounders Andre Adams and Chris Cairns and England wicket-keeper Chris Read played in the competition, as did Hampshire trio Nic Pothas, Nantie Hayward and Ian Harvey.

And the BBCI, who run their own Twenty20 competition with the Indian Premier League, are refusing to let their players star alongside anyone who has been connected to the ICL.

"Our boys will not play alongside ICL players," BCCI spokesman Rajiv Shukla said.

"It is the board's policy not to have any dealings with the ICL or its players."

The decision means that 15 of the 18 English counties are now unable to sign India players.

I think that the BCCI have made the correct decision because the ICL is only a tournament for players who want to make money. The ICL is not officially registered with the ICC and therefore i think that BCCI have made it clear that ICL is a rubbish tournament. I think that ICL is rubbish as we only talk about the IPL, i mean does anybody know anything about the ICL? No, so i think that BCCI have made a correct decision about this issue

BCCI is trying to scapegoat ICL and throw their weight around. We want to see good cricket and have no interest in the BCCI. If it were upto to me I would send one English county team to compete in the ICL and send the winner from ICL to play in the EPL. Do you not think that the top Indian cricketers would want to play in the EPL? Hell, we want to see them there. If BCCI is being so paranoid about ICl maybe someone should come out and support the ICL and set things right.

Ridiculous, how can this BCCI monopoly continue to dominate world cricket, What ICL has done is a world of good to Indian cricket, we get to see so many players with "class" playing along with good international players otherwise they would have all disappeared, with anybody even knowing them.

Very shortly, the BCCI could find themselves in a position they wouldn't like to be, i.e. being isolated by the cricket world. Yes, they have the money, yes, they have the power, but I don't think they have the right to misuse it. Their action is doing no good to cricket. I think they should think over the issue and try to resolve it in a manner which does no harm to cricket or cricketers.

"David Cooper says... Boo Hoo, no Indian cricket players. How will the league survive?... Get over yourselves!" Took the words right out of my mouth.

Another example of the sub-continent acting as god. India has great players which cannot express themselves outside of the BCCI constraints, BCCI and PCB go off and have a chat about how you can benefit sport and not get in the way. Which leads on to something else, if this were roles reversed they would now be burning effigies of Nottinghamshire / hampshire players, I am affraid that india and pakistan pull the political card far to often and claim racism, unfair treatment or that provide any negative comment or citting is a slur and condemnation of their people. Grow up, play sport as men intended. People all over the world want to see great players and laxman is one of the best, there is no better advert for india than its best cricketers. Still the PCB and BCCI tend not to share the greatest minds

The general feeling amongst Indians is that the stance taken up BCCI regarding the ICL players has gotten ridiculous. We all sympathise with ICL players and the counties they represent, more so with the spectators. The banning goes against every rule. The BCCI are in the position to lead the cricket world. If they try to seperate themselves from others, making their thinking so absurd to be part of, I wonder what good is it then to be in the leader's position. Sooner of later our league shall become a circus where world cricket comes to make money and the lesser players to make a name. Andrew Symond showed no care for his team or the game through out his stay in India. We were all very disappointed by that. Hopefully the conduct will change on BCCI's part and the visiting players.
