Brown: Leaving Surrey
Surrey have confirmed veteran batsman Ali Brown will be released at the end of the season.
The 38-year-old former England one-day player has endured a lean summer by his standards - as have his employers, who are bottom of Division One in the LV County Championship.
Brown, who made his first-class debut for Surrey 16 years ago, has made 44 hundreds and almost 15,000 runs at an average of 43.35.
His 268 against Glamorgan at The Oval in the C&G Trophy in 1996 remains a one-day world record.
Surrey cricket manager Alan Butcher voiced his thanks to Brown for his contribution to the club.
"Alistair Brown has been a great servant of Surrey County Cricket Club and played a leading role during his successful career with us," said Butcher.
"We all wish Alistair every success for the future."
Surrey chief executive Paul Sheldon added: "Ali Brown has been one of the most prodigious run-makers for Surrey in recent years.
"His record in one-day cricket is almost unparalleled, and the club owe him a great debt of thanks for all that he has achieved."
