Trescothick: Happy with Compton's arrival
Somerset captain Marcus Trescothick has hailed the arrival of Nick Compton after his move from Middlesex.
Compton has agreed terms with the Taunton club and the 26-year-old has been lined up to replace the influential Justin Langer, who retired at the end of the season.
Trescothick could open the batting with the former England A player, and he believes the batsmen - who averages 33.95 in first class cricket - will be a "big asset" for the county.
"I am delighted with the signing of Nick Compton, who is a good player in four-day and one-day cricket," Trescothick told the club's official site.
"After a hugely promising start to his career, he encountered the problems a lot of batsmen, including myself, have gone through as bowlers start to work you out.
"But he seems to have come through that period now and I believe he will be a big asset."
Compton scored over 1,600 runs for the London-club last season and Somerset director of cricket Brian Rose believes he has the potential to break into the England team.
"Marcus Trescothick and I share the opinion that Nick can improve rapidly in the Somerset environment and go on to higher honours," Rose said.
