Quotes of the week
Tiger Woods eased his way to a fourth straight Buick Invitational title with a final round of 71 at Torrey Pines.
The world number one's one-under-par score meant he finished on 19-under for the tournament, eight shots clear of his nearest rival.
Japan's Ryuji Imada, who shot up the leaderboard with a five-under-par round of 67, ended up in second, with Rory Sabbatini and Stewart Cink tied for third a further two shots adrift.
However, no one was able to get close to Woods, who drew level with Arnold Palmer on the PGA Tour's all-time winners list by claiming his 62nd victory.
"This course has been really kind to me," Woods, who had posted 19 consecutive rounds in the 60s before Sunday, said.
"Ever since junior golf all the way through my professional ranks, I've somehow really seemed to have played well here. It fits my eye. I feel very comfortable here.
"My buddy (Mark) O'Meara won five times up at Pebble Beach, I guess Sam (Snead) at Greensboro and (Jack) Nicklaus at Augusta.
"Guys that have won a number of times at certain venues and somehow this golf course seems to have been pretty good for me."
Despite the delight of beginning 2008 on a winning note, Woods was not so happy to record four bogeys to return a score in the 70s for the first time since the Deutsche Bank Championship last September.
The American - who began the final day with an eight shot lead - birdied the first hole and also picked up another shot at the sixth to go further clear of the field.
He made three more birdies on the back nine but also managed three consecutive bogeys to clinch victory in relatively low-key fashion.
"Today, I wanted to go out there and shoot an under-par round and have no bogeys," he added. "I got half of it right."
Phil Mickelson matched Woods with a final round of 71 that meant he finished his week's work on six-under.
Englishman Kenneth Ferrie was the highest finishing European in a six-way tie for 13th after a two-over 74.
