Former world number one Vijay Singh has pulled out of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth with a muscle tear.
Singh had to withdraw from the European Tour's flagship event despite intensive treatment on a rib muscle injury.
The Fijian believes he may have made the mistake of not warming up properly after arriving from America on Monday.
"I thought I was fine, but maybe the flight wasn't as comfortable as I thought," he said. "I had heat and ice and ultrasound, but it wasn't to be.
"It is a very sharp pain and it was unbearable at times. I don't get injured that often and this is a weird one.
"I didn't want to go out there and take a spot away from somebody, withdrawing after three or four holes."
The world number nine hopes to recover in time for next week's Memorial tournament in Ohio. "I'll maybe go to the doctors to see if I can get an MRI (scan) done because I think there might be a little tear in there," he added.
"I have to get myself sorted out because it is a big year and a big spell coming up. I mean, the US Open is only three weeks away."
Scotland's Pete Whiteford replaced Singh in a threeball alongside Swedes Henrik Stenson and Robert Karlsson.
