Singh: one clear of Mickelson
Vijay Singh leads the WGC Bridgestone Invitational by one stroke from Phil Mickelson at the half-way stage.
Singh carded a four-under 66 in the second round to sit atop the leaderboard at seven-under-par.
The Fijian picked up shots at the second and third on his way to a bogey-free front nine at the Firestone Country Club.
And further birdies at 12th, 14th and 16th sandwiched his solitary bogey of the day at the 13th to ensure Singh is out in front on his own.
There are, however, some big names chasing, none more so than Mickelson, who is alone in second at six-under after a second-round 66.
The world number two traded five birdies with a solitary bogey to move one clear of a four-way tied for third at five-under.
That group features American duo Sean O'Hair (67) and Zach Johnson (68), Australian Peter Lonard (66) and Englishman Lee Westwood.
Westwood signed for an impressive 65 on Friday, a round that featured six birdies in his first 11 holes.
"This is a golf course I've played well on in the past," said the Worksop golfer.
"I've shot 63 around here and I think I hold the lowest score for the back nine
"It's just a golf course that I stand on and a lot of shots suit my eye.
"I know there's a lot of crosswinds out there, but they don't seem to worry me too much, either.
"In some ways I always look forward to coming and playing. Obviously with no cut, as well, this week you can really sort of go out there and take the reins off and play freely."
Westwood is not the only European going well in Ohio - Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez (66) is handily placed at four-under with Irishman Paul McGinley (67) a stroke further back as he battles to keep his Ryder Cup qualification hopes alive.
Open champion Padraig Harrington had a day to forget as his round of 75 left him well off the pace at four-over for the tournament.
