Harrington: No win for second successive Ryder Cup
Padraig Harrington completed a miserable week as he slumped to a 2 and 1 defeat to Chad Campbell in the singles.
Widely expected to be one of Europe's major players, the three-time major winner ended up without a win for the second Ryder Cup in succession.
Put out last by Faldo, Harrington's match was still on the course by the time America clinched victory, but the Dubliner had once again looked some way from his best on Sunday.
Things started brightly enough as he twice moved ahead with birdies at the first and third, but Campbell refused to go away and had edged ahead by the fifth.
A double-bogey from Harrington at six gifted his opponent a two-hole advantage which he maintained as the players hit the turn.
Harrington, who took 37 through the first nine holes, refused to throw in the towel down the back nine, and cut the deficit with a birdie at 12.
But it rapidly became apparent his match would not matter in the wider picture and further bogeys at 15 and 16 condemned him to another defeat.
