Ryder Cup rivals Sergio Garcia and Anthony Kim will play together again on Saturday after the pair finished in the top two positions at the halfway stage of the Tour Championship.

Kim's 5 and 4 victory in the opening Ryder Cup singles over the Spaniard last Sunday set the tone for a rousing victory at Valhalla for the Americans.

But Garcia will have the chance for a measure of revenge after a sparkling second-round 65 saw him surge up the leaderboard at East Lake.

He will start the third round two shots adrift of Kim, who added a 69 to his opening 64. Garcia is the only member of Europe's defeated Ryder Cup team playing in Atlanta.

"I played solid today, hit some good shots and hit some good putts," said the world number five, who rolled in birdie putts from 25 feet at the sixth and seventh. "Unfortunately not the best finish but overall a good, solid round."

Kim said of his round: "I hit it pretty well, I just didn't get the putts to fall. I just wanted to keep grinding out there.

"It's a tough golf course and I know nobody is really going to shoot 61 out there and really jump on anybody. So it was a good day."

Superb

World number two Phil Mickelson is also right in the hunt after a second successive 68 left him at four-under, three shots off the pace, while Colombian Camilo Villegas shot a superb 66 to get to two-under.

At the other end of the leaderboard, Vijay Singh continued to struggle, shooting a 74 to be seven-over.

However, as far the FedEx Cup is concerned, the Fijian only has to complete 72 holes to be crowned champion and pick up a £5million bonus.

Singh all but wrapped up the title when he won two of the three play-off events in New Jersey and Massachusetts.

With only six players in the 30-man field under par, the new greens, which are rock hard and very fast, have proved a handful.
