Westwood hunts Belfry win

Westwood: strong finish to third round

He's a bit strange - he either wins the US Open or goes missing for three or four months. It will be difficult to win this afternoon with him around.

Defending champion Lee Westwood and Michael Campbell will go head-to-head in the final round of the Quinn Insurance British Masters after returning to finish off their third rounds early on Sunday.

The pair are tied for the lead at 10-under-par, three ahead of their nearest rivals Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Jeev Milkha Singh.

The tournament had fallen behind schedule after fog delayed the start of play on Friday and Saturday, but there were no such problems on Sunday at the Belfry.

Worksop's Westwood had eight holes remaining in his third round and made good progress with an eagle and three birdies to sign for a four-under 68.

That was enough to join Campbell at the top of the leaderboard, the New Zealander - who has not won since the 2005 US Open - added three birdies in his final four holes for a best-of-the week 65.

Change

"I tried to change things in myself, change my golf swing to be more consistent, more like Padraig (Harrington) and those guys out there, but that's just not me and so I've just gone back to basics," said Campbell.

"It's going to be a very good contest this afternoon, Lee's coming back, which is great, more fun for everyone involved in the tournament."

Westwood, part of Europe's beaten Ryder Cup team last weekend, is also relishing the chance to do battle with Campbell in the final group.

"After last week I needed three-hour fog delays like a hole in the head," admitted Westwood.

"But that's England at this time of the year. I've had to dig deep.

"I played with Michael for the first two rounds and it will be nice to be with him again this afternoon.

"He's a bit strange - he either wins the US Open or goes missing for three or four months. It will be difficult to win this afternoon with him around."
