Duval: return to form
Ryan Palmer claimed the half-way lead at six-under-par in the Ginn sur Mer Classic.
The 32-year-old played unspectacular golf to sign for a 71, managing just two birdies - at the first and 13th - and a solitary bogey at the fourth to go with 15 pars.
His one-under round was enough to move one ahead of a four-man group that includes Robert Allenby and Peter Lonard.
The Australian duo are joined at five-under by Americans Ken Duke and Michael Letzig, while former Open champion David Duval is alongside John Huston a shot further back.
Duval, also a former world number one, has been in a spectacular slump in recent times but showed glimpses of his old self during a three-under effort of 69.
Kent Jones and Letzig, the first-round leaders, both struggled to follow-up their opening 65s.
Jones, who began on the back nine, got off to a clean start but stumbled miserably after the turn with four bogeys and a double bogey on his final eight holes to finish with a five-over 77.
Letzig also started on the inward half and began badly with two bogeys and a double bogey on his first three holes before settling down with birdies at his next two holes in a round of 74 that left him one behind Palmer.
