Palmer: second PGA win
Ryan Palmer made a birdie at the last to break a six-man logjam at the top of the leaderboard and claim victory in the Ginn sur Mer Classic in Florida.
The 32-year-old American started the week down in 143rd place on the PGA Tour Money List and in danger of losing his card, but his second career victory after a closing 71 ensures he has a two-year exemption.
"Knowing the work I've put in this year - I've never practiced the way I've been practicing," an emotional Palmer said. "It has been a lot of sweat, and it's great to finally show it. I knew it was coming."
But it was a miserable Sunday for England's Kenneth Ferrie.
The popular Geordie started the fourth round in a tie for second place after a 67 on Saturday, just a shot behind third-round leader Michael Letzig and bidding for his first PGA Tour win.
But he dropped three shots in his first five holes and a closing 75 dropped him down into a tie for 18th. He will move up from his current 186th place on the Money List but with just one event left, will almost certainly lose his card.
Letzig shot a 73 to drop into a five-way tie for second but after starting the week in 109th place, he at least has the consolation of securing his playing priviliges for next season.
