Henrik Stenson feels the experience gained by partnering Robert Karlsson in this year's Ryder Cup proved crucial in Sweden's World Cup triumph over the weekend.
The Swedes overturned a four-stroke deficit to emerge victorious at the Mission Hills Golf Club after a sparkling final round of 63 in Sunday's foursomes.
That ensured they finished three clear of Spanish duo Miguel Angel Jimenez and Pablo Larrazabal who had headed into the final round clear of the field.
Afterwards, Stenson acknowledged the fact he had partnered Karlsson during the Ryder Cup had proved a major advantage heading into the event in China.
"I think playing in the Ryder Cup, it gives you great experience, and we had a great fourball together at Valhalla, and that's the only time we've played together before coming into this week," stated the 32-year-old.
"A team event is good fun. It's a format I really enjoy, and I think it sort of brings out the best of both players who can be there to cover up for each other, and then keep fighting hard for your partner.
"It has all worked out great."
Stenson's partner Karlsson expressed his delight at joining the likes of Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Severiano Ballesteros on the list of previous winners of the trophy.
"If you look on the trophy, there's many impressive pairings on there," he added.
"I hope we can look back on it in the future and say the same about us playing here.
"It means very much to win for the country. This has always been an event in Sweden that's been big. To play for your country is great."
For his part, Jimenez refused to dwell on defeat, instead choosing to praise his rookie team-mate Larrazabal.
"We were playing very well and I had a very nice partner," said the 44-year-old.
"We enjoyed all week and I really had fun with (Larrazabal). We didn't win the tournament, but apart from that, a very fine week."
