Quotes of the week
Tiger Woods holed the winning putt as the United States defeated the Internationals to retain the Presidents Cup in San Francisco.
Leading 12½-9½ after Saturday's foursomes and fourballs, Fred Couples' team went into the final-day singles needing just five points for victory.
Stewart Cink, Hunter Mahan, Anthony Kim and Sean O'Hair all won their matches to put the US on the brink of a sixth win in eight editions of the tournament.
It was then Woods who sealed their latest victory, comprehensively beating YE Yang - the man who had sensationally overhauled the world number one on the final day of this year's USPGA Championship.
The 6&5 result over the South Korean completed a perfect campaign for the 14-time major winner, who was quick to praise skipper Couples.
"We played great as a team and the captain did some great pairings," Woods, who ended with a 5-0 record for the week, said.
"He put us together with some guys that we knew we could play really with, and the guys made putts this week. All in all, I'm very proud of the guys."
It had been Open champion Cink who put the first American point on the board with a 4&3 rout of Australian Adam Scott, one of two picks made by Internationals captain Greg Norman.
Scott's compatriot Robert Allenby was also beaten, Anthony Kim securing a 5&3 triumph when his opponent missed a putt at the 15th green.
With Mahan coming back from two down after four holes to beat Colombian Camilo Villegas, the US were left needing just two more points.
The only doubt seemed to be over who would put the hosts over the top - the issue being settled when O'Hair thumped Ernie Els 6&4.
Woods soon rolled in a six-footer on the 13th green to give the United States a fifth straight win on home soil, the other four coming at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in northern Virginia.
The Internationals had begun the day needing eight points to match their one and only cup success back in 1998 - they were never ahead in more than six of the games.
Geoff Ogilvy did manage a 2&1 result against Steve Stricker but by the time any of his team-mates managed to follow suit they were already consigned to another defeat.
Ryo Ishikawa beat Kenny Perry with one hole to play while Tim Clark and Angel Cabrera managed 4&3 victories over Zach Johnson and Jim Furyk respectively.
Phil Mickelson defeated Retief Goosen 2&1 while the other match between Lucas Glover and Vijay Singh was halved, making the final score 19½-14½ in favour of the United States.
