Trevor Immelman has undergone surgery on his left wrist and now hopes to be fully fit for the start of the 2010 PGA Tour season.
The South African endured a frustrating time of things this year with the injury hampering him for long periods.
He missed three out of the four majors because of the complaint and ultimately decided to go under the knife to try and resolve the issue.
The 29-year-old had surgery in New York on Thursday and now faces an extensive three-month rehabilitation programme to regain fitness.
"This past season was a frustrating one as I dealt with this recurring injury," said the 2008 Masters champion in a statement released by his manager.
"After attempting all other treatment options and consulting with Dr (Andrew) Weiland, surgery was the right option.
"The timing was very important to me as I want to put this season behind me and be ready for 2010. I look forward to a healthy and productive season next year."
