Liang: targeting a win in Hong Kong

Liang Wen-chong of China is hoping to clinch his second Asian Tour Order of Merit crown with a big performance at this week's Hong Kong Open.

The 31-year-old has it all to do at Fanling this week, needing either a victory or runner-up finish to edge out Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee in the race end the season as Asia's number one.

However, Liang is in good form and is not short on confidence after coming close to adding a third career Asian Tour victory to his CV at the Singapore Open two weeks ago.

"I'm feeling very good about my game now. I'm playing well and if I play true to form, I should be able to do well," said the 2007 Asian Order of Merit winner.

"Every sportsman sets out to win and I'm no different. We only want to do our best out there and hopefully our best is good enough to win."

Liang is proving one of the trailblazers for the growth of golf in his homeland and hopes his performances will help inspire a new generation of stars from China, adding: "Golf is on the rise in China and I hope that my performance will motivate many of my fellow countrymen to take up the sport and make an impact on the world stage."

Another player to aid the boom in Asian golf is YE Yang who became the region's first major winner earlier in the year.

Tough for Yang

However, the Korean star has acknowledged that he has found it hard to recapture the form that saw him so memorably edge out Tiger Woods for the USPGA Championship since that famous victory at Hazeltine.

He is hoping that he can put the record straight with a strong showing in Hong Kong this week, but concedes his punishing schedule since that USPGA triumph has taken a toll.

"This is my ninth event since that win and I've been travelling almost round the world, all across the US, from New York to San Francisco to Shanghai and now Hong Kong," Yang explained.

"To be honest, it has been a very tough schedule. I'm enjoying it but my body is not following my heart and my brain. It's taking a toll on me but hopefully I can tolerate and work through it with a win this week."
