Seve Ballesteros has been invited to compete in the Champions Challenge at St Andrews next July, on the eve of the Open Championship.
Ballesteros, who is still recovering from a brain tumour, is one of 32 Open champions that have been invited to the event. The event will be a repeat of the 2000 tournament, with the competitors playing the first, second, 17th and 18th holes.
Nine years ago this event hosted 22 former winners, including the likes of Tom Lehman, Paul Lawrie and 88-year-old Sam Snead. Now Lehman, Lawrie and co have again been invited to play alongside the likes of Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus.
The Challenge helps to raise money for a charity chosen by the eventual winners. In 2000, £40,000 was raised and David Hill, the Royal and Ancient Club's director of championships, hopes the event will once again be a success.
He said: "We hope that the majority of our former champions will accept the invitation and join us in St Andrews to help commemorate this very special occasion."

Cameron Doddington says...
I can't believe that Seve has been invited to play at next years Champions Challenge. I really think that it will be great to see him back on the course again (after so long out). I would also like to wish him the best of luck for the new year and hope he can make a impact next July.
