Royal Lytham and St Annes will stage the 2015 Walker Cup match it has been announced.

The biannual contest sees Britain & Ireland's leading amateurs go head-to-head with their American counterparts.

The United States currently hold the trophy after a 16½-9½ victory in the 2009 match at Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania.

Next year's Walker Cup is at Royal Aberdeen in Scotland and the 2013 match will take place at the National Links of America on New York's Long Island.

Royal Lytham and St Annes is where Bobby Jones famously became only the third amateur to win the Open Championship in 1926 and in its most recent staging of the championship David Duval emerged triumphant in 2001.

In total, the Lancashire links has hosted 10 Opens and the course will do so again in 2012.
