Chad Collins moved into a one-stroke lead midway through the second round of the storm-hit Puerto Rico Open on Saturday.

The Nationwide Tour graduate had made it to nine under par through 11 holes when play was suspended for the day after the first round was finally concluded earlier on.

Collins made five birdies in nine holes after starting from the 10th before he dropped his first shot of the day at the first.

But he hit straight back with an eagle at the next, chipping in from short of the green, before the klaxon sounded, with the 31-year-old holding a narrow advantage over clubhouse leader Paul Stankowski, Jeff Overton and Jhonattan Vegas.

Stankowski fired a two-under par 70 to stand on eight-under, two strokes ahead of Australian veteran Steve Elkington and American Guy Boros. No one else who had finished was above the projected cut line.

Nicholas Thompson and James Nitties led four players tied for fifth place at seven under par, but neither Skip Kendall nor Kris Blanks were able to start their second rounds, and were relying on impressive rounds of 65 earlier for their lofty position.

Tournament organisers are preparing for a Monday finish although they hope to have the second and third rounds completed by Sunday night.
