Lamely: First win on PGA Tour
A bogey-free final round of 66 proved enough for Derek Lamely to claim his maiden PGA Tour title at the weather-hit Puerto Rico Open.
The Tour rookie had never managed a top 10 finish previously but broke his duck in a tournament that didn't finish until Monday due to storm delays.
With most of Thursday and Friday lost to heavy rain, the third round was then delayed further due to darkness on Sunday evening.
Returning to play 54 holes, Lamely moved himself into contention during the morning with a stunning score of 63, the lowest of the week.
Starting again in the afternoon at the 10th, the 29-year-old carded three birdies on both his front and back nine to set the clubhouse lead at 19 under.
In the end he finished two clear of his nearest rival Kris Blanks, the American firing a 69 to claim second place on a 17-under-par total of 271.
"I just kept on trying to make birdies, I kept on trying to be aggressive," said Lamely afterwards.
"I knew if I kept playing well and I kept trying to make birdies, I knew I would get within striking distance."
There were a group of four players a further shot adrift, a 68 from Zimbabwe's Brendon de Jonge proving enough to get him a share of third place.
He was joined by Americans Kevin Streelman, who had been joint-leader with Chad Collins after the third round had concluded, and Steve Wheatcroft, as well Australian James Nitties.
