Overton: bogey-free round
American Jeff Overton shot an eight-under 62 to move into a four-stroke lead after the second round of the Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia.
Overton, who is without a win in five seasons on the PGA Tour, shot the low round of the tournament with a bogey-free day on the Old White course.
His fellow American Boo Weekley is second at 10-under after shooting a 63 on Friday.
Jimmy Walker (64) and double heart transplant recipient Erik Compton (68) are nine-under. Compton, the first-round co-leader, is playing on a sponsor's exemption.
Australian Aaron Baddeley (65), Briny Baird (65), Chris Stroud (63) and Charles Howell (67) are six strokes back at five-under.
"To be honest, as soon as I hit my driver on the first hole and I hit a good wedge shot in there, I knew that I was gonna have a good round," the 27-year-old leader said.
"I was very confident with the way I was swinging my driver, and I knew if I could continue just to put the ball in play and to keep balls in fairways, I knew I was gonna have a good shot at a low number today."
Overton is 12th in the FedEx Cup points list and and could move up to second place with a win on Sunday.
Only three Europeans made the cut - Swedes Richard S Johnson and Carl Pettersson, and Spain's Sergio Garcia.
Of them, Johnson - last week's Scandinavian Masters winner - is best placed, his round of 67 putting him on seven-under, while Garcia posted a similar round to finish on five-under.
None of the British contingent made the cut, which was set at two under. Greg Owen was level par, while Brian Davis and Martin Laird were four and five over respectively.
