Overton: now three clear
Jeff Overton managed five birdies on his back nine to remain on top of the leaderboard after the third round of the Greenbrier Classic.
The American had started the day with a four-shot lead but carded bogeys at the second and fifth on the Old White Course at White Sulphur Springs.
However, he managed a birdie at the eighth to get back on track before picking up a further five shots in six holes from the 12th onwards.
Overton's closest challenger is now compatriot DA Points, who charged into contention in West Virginia with a stunning round of 61 on Saturday.
He made six birdies in a front nine of 28 and added four more by the 16th - leaving himself in sight of a 59. That dream disappeared at the 17th, though, as he missed a four-and-a-half-foot putt to drop a shot.
A par followed at the final hole to complete a nine-under-par round for Points, though it wasn't even the best of the day.
JB Holmes went one lower with a 60 that had 11 birdies and a solitary bogey at the third. It could have been even lower had he not missed a birdie putt at 11 and then seen an effort for eagle on 17 somehow stay out of the cup.
"I hit some good putts on the back nine that didn't go in so it's a little frustrating when you look back and end up one short," he said.
"It's a great round no matter what. When you look back and there's a three-footer you missed or even the eagle putt on 17 where you hit two good shots and then I hit the putt right where I wanted to.
"To end up one short is a little frustrating (but) I'll definitely take it."
Holmes now sits in a tie for fourth spot on 12 under with fellow Americans Jonathan Byrd and Jimmy Walker and Zimbabwean Brendon de Jonge.
Boo Weekley is just above the quartet in third after picking up birdies at the final two holes to sign for a score of 67.
Stuart Appleby is at 11 under after a bogey-free 65. American duo Charles Howell III (67) and Erik Compton (68) - who had shared the lead after the first round - join the Australian in a sharing eighth place.
