The US PGA TOUR has awarded Sky Sports a new eight-year deal to broadcast PGA TOUR events live and in high definition.
The new contract, one of the longest broadcast agreements ever awarded by the US PGA TOUR, allows Sky Sports viewers to follow the biggest names on the TOUR throughout the season.
Among the stars on display are World No.1 Tiger Woods, three-time Major winner Phil Mickelson and Irish sensation Rory McIlroy, who will compete as a PGA TOUR member in 2010.
The agreement gives Sky Sports:
- Live coverage of the US PGA TOUR, including THE PLAYERS Championship from Sawgrass.
- All four events in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup, culminating with THE TOUR Championship.
- The FedExCup regular season exclusively live.
- Exclusive live coverage of The Presidents Cup in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017.
Announcing the new deal, Barney Francis, Managing Director of Sky Sports, said: "This is great news for our viewers and for golf. We can promise quality events, with some of the biggest names in golf, right through the calendar and even more HD coverage.
Barney Francis continued: "It is fascinating to be able to follow players from the US TOUR alongside our European coverage, particularly in a Ryder Cup year. And it's a great time to be back covering the US TOUR too, with Rory McIlroy committing himself to events from the US calendar. We look forward to a long relationship with the US PGA TOUR."
Tim Leisure, PGA TOUR Senior Vice President of International Television said, "The PGA TOUR is extremely pleased once again to be associated with Sky Sports, the leading sports network in the United Kingdom. This long-term association guarantees that U.K. golf fans will have access to the exciting chase for the FedExCup in HD during primetime for many years to come."
Sky Sports shows golf every week of the year and will schedule coverage from more than 150 tournaments in 2010.
The line-up includes The Ryder Cup in 2010 and 2012, US Open until 2014, USPGA Championship until 2016, Solheim Cup in 2011 and 2013, all three World Golf Championship events each season until 2012, and 35 events each season on the PGA European Tour, plus The Race For Dubai until 2012.
In addition, Sky Sports broadcasts events from the Asian, Ladies and Amateur Tours.
